Groundbreaking Ceremony Planned for Timberhill

San Antonio, TX – March 2007

The City of San Antonio Public Works Department prepares to break ground on long-awaited improvements to the Timberhill Low Water Crossing at Huebner Creek on Tuesday, March 13 at 9:00 a.m. Prime engineering consultant Unintech Consulting Engineers, Inc. (UNINTECH) and contractor Capital Excavation will join city officials at the informal ceremony to kick-off construction. Those expected to attend include District 6 City Councilwoman Delicia Herrera, Capital Programs Manager Kent Hickingbottom, UNINTECH CEO Clifford Hew, Capital Excavation representatives, and other officials from the City of San Antonio Public Works Department.

The Timberhill Low Water Crossing is one of eleven projects that make up the 2005 Storm Water Revenue Bond Projects with the City of San Antonio Public Works Department. The eleven projects within the bond project involve infrastructure recapitalization, major storm water outfalls, regional storm water detention facilities, and low water crossing mitigation. The Timberhill Low Water Crossing involves the replacement of an existing functionally-deficient low water crossing with a 900 ft. bridge that will span the floodplain at Huebner Creek. A history of traffic fatalities and need for better flood control urged the Timberhill improvement project forward. Work on the project will also include street reconstruction for bridge limits as well as transitions for a collector street with a 44-foot pavement section with bicycle lanes and sidewalks. As prime firm over the project, UNINTECH offered an innovative bridge design alternative that reduced the proposed bridge length by 500 feet and resulted in a functional design solution that brought significant cost savings to the City.
The groundbreaking commences at 9:00 a.m. at the Timberhill/Huebner Creek job site.
