UNINTECH is proud to announce that it has been named a National Recognition Award Winner for the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) Engineering Excellence Awards. UNINTECH won the award for its structural engineering work on the San Antonio Independent School District Alamo Stadium renovation project. Alamo Stadium was built in 1940 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  Unintech’s CEO, Mr. Clifford Hew, and David Peralta, Ph.D., P.E., traveled to Washington D.C. to receive the reward on behalf of the company.

UNINTECH was responsible for the structural engineering assessment and renovation design of Alamo Stadium. The primary goal for the project was to “completely renovate and restore Alamo Stadium with updated functional, safe and code compliant amenities and preserving the historic fabric of the facility,” said SAISD Associate Superintendent for Facilities and Construction Kamal ElHabr, P.E.

Since the stadium was built on an old quarry, this unique location itself created challenges for the design of the pier foundations and retaining walls. “The structural design was a critical element in achieving this goal,” said ElHabr.

UNINTECH engineers were able to use existing engineering techniques to come up with an innovative solution to preserve the original construction of the walls and murals and give new life to the structure.

“We are extremely proud of being part of the design team that provided the first major renovations to the historical Alamo Stadium,” said UNINTECH CEO Clifford Hew, P.E.

The ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards Competition has been held by the ACEC since 1975 to honor and recognize outstanding achievements within the engineering community. A panel of judges made selections based on uniqueness, originality, technical value to the engineering profession, complexity, and how successfully the project met the needs of the client, according to the ACEC.
